Dondrub Guest House is the only hotel in the Boudha area of Kathmandu owned and partially run by nuns. It is the ideal choice for the visitor looking for an inexpensive, clean room in a quite environment. An oasis in the bustle and noise of Kathmandu. The close proximity to the Nunnery gives the visitor a unique chance to experience the traditional way of life for Buddhist nuns
Located in a quite area only a few minutes’ walk from the Boudha Stupa (a world heritage site and a holy place for many Buddhists) DGH acts as an excellent base from which to enjoy and witness the living tradition of different groups of Buddhists from the Himalaya region or simply go sightseeing and explore the treasures of Kathmandu city center, only a few kilometers away
The original building of Dondrub guesthouse has been completely renovated and a new wing added in 2013. The 3 story-building contains 35 comfortable and well equipped rooms with beautiful floors made from local hard wood. All rooms are en-suite with a modern bathroom with western style toilets, a hand basin and shower.
The reception and lounge area is on the ground floor. There is a little convenience store at the front desk containing a nice selection of Nepali teas and coffee as well as small souvenirs some of which are produced by the nuns.
Guests can enjoy many outdoor areas at DGH; there is a large yard complete with a large mango tree and many other plants and flowers. A sunny rooftop terrace and many quite corners all over the property where one can sit at a table and read undisturbed.
The nunnery’s beautiful gardens are open to guests from dawn to dusk
The breakfast buffet is served in the skylight lounge between 7.30 to 9.00 and offers a selection of cereals, fruits, bread and local cheeses, jam and honey from organic farms, eggs, tea and coffee. The room is heated in the cold months of the year.
There is a wealth of small shops close by the Stupa selling not only traditional handicrafts but also offering a wide range of services such as tailors, laundry & dry-cleaning, hairdressers, Spa and massage, internet services and money changers. In the plaza where the Boudha Stupa is built you will find a great variety of restaurants and cafes – try Meze or Guru´s Curry at Stupa View, great momos are made at Double Dorje, delicious pizza at the Road House Cafe, or Spanish cuisine at La Casita.
